Glass Beach is a protected beach, but not for its natural beauty. Located just outside of Fort Bragg, California it became an illegal dumping ground for residents in the late nineteenth century who lacked any kind of refuse pickup. It wasn’t until 1967 that the illegal dump was finally closed by city leaders and the local water board. The beach was cleaned of large refuse, but small pieces of glass and plastic that had been worn down by the elements remain, giving the beach its name and its unusual beauty.

Quote: «And if a woman should say she doesn’t want to have children at all, the world is apt to go decidedly peculiar: ‘Ooooh, don’t speak too soon,’ it will say — as if knowing whether or not you’re the kind of person who desires to make a whole other human being in your guts, out of sex and food, then have the rest of your life revolve around its welfare, is a breezy, ‘Hey - whevs’ decision. Like electing to have a picnic on an unexpectedly sunny day or changing the background picture on your desktop. ‘When you meet the right man, you’ll change your mind, dear,’ the world will say, with an odd, aggressive smugness.»

OMG people say this to me all the time “if you meet the right guy you will”, no fuckface if I meet the right guy I’ll want to spend forever with him, and travel together, and have a life together but that WILL NOT include kids.

A male co-worker I knew pretty well was actually surprised when I did not include having children or marriage in my top 5 lifetime goals. Obviously, he expected those things to be on my list, because well, “isn’t that what everyone woman wants?”

I also think telling a woman “oh you’ll change your mind” or “we’ll see when you get older” or “you just need to meet the right guy” undermines women’s decision making abilities, as if we don’t know our bodies, our own wants, our own needs; or rather, we are broken because we don’t want kids; or that we are somehow not women without the want and need of a child.

Gosh, that’s true. And here i was thinking it was just me being immature and weird for being ticked off by said smugness.
